An Overview On Food Allergies

It happens a lot of times that when people have a certain meal, they start feeling uncomfortable. This is because they have intolerance towards a particular product or an ingredient and they need testing for food allergies. Moreover, people start suffering from symptoms like pain in the stomach, outbreaks of wind, nausea, bloating and vomiting etc. In many cases, people also experience diarrhoea, irritability and weight gain. All of this happens because they are intolerant towards certain foods.

When people experience these symptoms after the intake of a certain food product, then it means that there must be an ingredient in that product that irritates the digestive system of that person. The person is not able to break down that product properly and therefore, such symptoms appear. Most of the times, people these days are intolerant towards dairy products. You can say that they are lactose intolerant which means that even the slightest intake of a dairy product can make them seriously ill. Research shows that approximately 10% of the population, in general, suffers from lactose intolerance. Also, there are many people who are intolerant towards gluten which means that they cannot have anything that includes wheat as an ingredient.
Many people don’t understand the difference between food allergy and food intolerance. They think that both of these things are the same. However, you must understand that there is a lot of difference when between an allergy and intolerance. If you are allergenic to the food product or an ingredient, then it would produce more severe symptoms that can include hives, rashes and irritated skin. Moreover, it can also cause difficulty in breathing and chest pain.
You should not confuse the food allergy or intolerance with digestive difficulties. It can happen that you get food poisoning by eating the food that is not cooked properly or if the food product is well past its expiry date.

Whether you are suffering from food poisoning or intolerance, it is wise to visit a professional so he can make a diagnosis and treat you accordingly. If you visit a physician at a clinic or a hospital, then he would first run a series of tests to rule out all the issues that he thinks you might have. It would help the doctor in figuring out whether your problem is linked to food poisoning, food allergy or an intolerance. When the doctor figures out that your problem is about food intolerance, then he eliminates certain food and keeps a record to make the final diagnosis. However, you must keep in mind that you have to be patient because this process can be lengthy and it takes a lot of time.
For example, if a person is experiencing symptoms and he visits a doctor, the doctor takes certain tests that come back positive. This test would reveal that the person is intolerant towards seafood but the test can’t exactly pinpoint to which seafood. To find the exact culprit you would have to experiment with eating certain types of fish etc. After finding out which fish was causing a problem, you can cut it from your diet and enjoy the rest of the fish and the seafood.
There is also a possibility that the testing results would come back negative in which case you would have to look towards other things that can cause the symptoms.
However, once you find out the food that is causing you these painful symptoms, all you would have to do is to eliminate the food from your diet and you would be good to go. You would instantly experience a better health and better quality of life and the discomforts associated would be eliminated
